Meet the Team

All instructors are taking new students!

Alicia began riding horses at the early age of 6. What started out as a hobby, quickly evolved into a passion with the help of Kit Gustufson at Fleet Rum Farm. At the age of 10, Alicia’s parents bought her first horse, “Sunbeams Delight” and a second horse, an appaloosa named “RF Prince Phillipo”, two years later. The Prince and Alicia were together for the next 21 years.

Alicia rode and competed throughout her teen years and at 16, she qualified for Youth Nationals on the “A” Arabian Circuit under the guidance of Jennifer Minter.

Alicia graduated from Johnson & Wales University with a degree in Equine Business Management and Riding. At J&W she rode with Lou Denizard, Crystal Taylor, Shannon Dueck, and Mark Weissbecker. Alicia continued to ride under the guidance of Lou Denizard after his departure from the university.

In 2000, Alicia transitioned to the hunter jumpers at High View Farm. In 2003, she became a professional working at Pilot Point Farm and purchased her first AQHA, “Luken to The Future,” showing in the AQHA novice amateur classes. She went on to open her own barn in 2005, Prospect Hill Farm.

Alicia held a position on the Board of Directors of Tristate Horsemen’s Association from 1999-2013; and named President from 2011-2013. Currently, Alicia is the IEA Zone 1 Region 6 President and coach Prospect Hill Farm/Mt. St. Charles/Bay View Academy team. She has multiple year-end awards for TriState Horseman’s Association, Conneticut Hunter Jumper Association, Rhode Island Horseman's Association, amd Conneticut Horse Show Association for not only herself; but also her students. She is the show manager for the Woodstcok Fair and a 4H carded judge.

Alicia has made Prospect Hill Farm a home for all; from beginners to highly-skilled riders, and she fosters a community that empowers riders to excel in an educational environment—building self-confidence, skills, and sportsmanship.

Talia DiCostanzo

Talia began her riding journey at the young age of 7 when her father decided to bring her to their neighbor's horse farm (PHF). After one lesson, she fell in love and has never looked back. Talia began taking western lessons with Alicia in 2007 and it was not long after that she began riding English, too. Talia's passion for riding quickly grew and she was gifted her first horse, a black Quarter Horse, at 10 years old. With him, she showed in the western pleasure, equitation, and all around events. In 2012, the team competed in the New Enlgand Westen Medal Finals. In her teenage years, she competed on the both the Quarter Horse and Pinto circuit as well as the Hunter/Jumper circuit, competing in MHJ Finals at Fieldstone Show Park in 2013 and 2014.

Because of Talia's passion for both Western and English, she was dedicated to expanding her skills and knowledge in both disciplines. She continued to show on both the Breed circuits and Hunter/Jumper circuits showing at shows such as RIHA, CHSA, MHJ, PtHA, and AQHA. In 2014, Talia purchased her first young horse, a 3 year old Quarter Horse, who with the help if Alicia, she was able to train and finish into an all-around show horse. Since then, Talia has fallen in love with working with young, green horses and has found a passion in ensuring all horses are given a proper foundation. Talia continues to work with green horses, giving them solid, foundational skills both on the ground and undersaddle, setting them up for success in their careers.

In 2018, Talia founded Mount Saint Charles' IEA team which she has ridden on herself while in high school, and is now the coach of. She continues to act as the secondary IEA coach for the Propsect Hill Farm / Mount Saint Charles / Bay View IEA team. Talia has found a true passion for teaching the horse and rider of all ages. In 2024, Talia took on the role as Assistant Trainer. Her teaching approach is rooted in compassion and patience, fostering a supportive and encouraging environment for riders of all levels. She emphasizes building confidence and a strong connection between horse and rider while also focusing on advancing their technical abilities, guiding them through more complex riding techniques and helping them refine their skills.

Melanie McGarrahan

Melanie, lovingly known as Mel in the barn, joined our team at Prospect Hill Farm in 2017. At a young age, Mel's daughter Shae, fell in love with riding and Mel soon shared the same passion for horses. She learned everything and anything she could about stable management and basic horse care.

Mel is truly the backbone of Prospect Hill, providing top-quality care to every horse that steps in the facility. She goes above and beyond, treating each horse as if they were her own.

In 2022, Mel stepped up to be an instructor for our little tots. The way she is with kids is unexplainable. She makes lessons productive and educational, but also makes sure the student is having fun and enjoyng their time at the farm.
